Petraeus: Afghanistan war surge won't have quick results
Gen. David Petraeus, who commands U.S. forces in the Middle East, said he does not expect progress in Afghanistan to mirror the quick and dramatic results achieved under the troop surge in Iraq in 2007.


Marines find arms caches in Taliban region
U.S. Marines and Afghan security forces assaulting a Taliban stronghold in the Now Zad valley of Helmand province have uncovered large caches of explosives, rifles, machine guns and material used to make roadside bombs, the Marines announced today.


War pitch belied by Taliban-al-Qaeda strife
