Because He Said So?

AP ran a relatively disturbing story today on al Qaeda's links to the Christmas Airline bombing attempt. This is the second time in several months we have caught AP with ill-informed editorializing in their articles.
A senior administration official had said the United States was increasingly confident there was a link between Abdulmutallab and an al-Qaida affiliate, but Obama's statement is the strongest connection between the two.
The President "says so" is neither evidence nor the "strongest" connection. I would think the suspect's travel to Yemen from August to December 2009, CIA information on his possible nefarious activities, his entrance into terrorist databases, combined with al Qaeda's claim of responsibility would be a little stronger than an elected U.S. official making a statement.

Maybe AP forgot what happened the last time the media parroted elected officials' claims of terrorist connections. At least we have evidence in the Abdulmutallab case.
